Carrie Fisher’s Autopsy Report Shows Cocaine, Heroin, and Ecstasy Present In System
According to an autopsy report released by the LA County Coroner on Monday, June 19th, 2017, Carrie Fischer had a cocktail of substances in her system when she passed away earlier this year, after going into cardiac arrest during a December 23rd, 2016 flight from London to Los Angeles. The drugs found in her system included cocaine, methadone, heroin and ecstasy (MDMA).
Although sleep apnea was listed as the primary cause of death, drug use was reported as a secondary contributing factor in the Star Wars actress’s passing. Heroin, in particular, likely suppressed Fisher’s respiratory functioning. The report also notes that Fisher’s family did not endorse a full autopsy, so the conclusions that are reported are based on toxicology results, as well as external examination of Fisher’s body. This is significant – without a full autopsy, it wasn’t possible to determine exactly how much each of the substances contributed to her death, the coroner’s office stated.
The drugs that Fisher was ingesting were not limited to recreational drugs – Fisher had a history of bipolar disorder, and she was also taking Prozac, Abilify, and Lamictal under the guidance of a physician.
